Terrell Newton
Sanford Sports Academy Specialist – BasketballTerrell Newton joined Sanford Sports Academy in 2023. He played collegiate basketball at Wayne State, Iowa Lakes Community College, Dakota State University and Dakota Wesleyan University. Newton got his start in coaching at DWU, where he served as the graduate assistant coach for two seasons for the men’s basketball team. Newton then spent two seasons as the head coach of the girls’ basketball team at Miller High School in Miller, South Dakota. Following a two-year stint there, he spent two seasons as the head assistant coach of the men’s program at DWU.
What Newton asks of his athletes helps them become better teammates and prepares them to be better players. He demands effort, energy and a positive attitude, which are all choices athletes can make, regardless of their skill. Newton teaches the core fundamentals of basketball to build a solid foundation of skill and ability.
As a coach, Newton enjoys meeting players or fellow coaches wherever they are in their basketball journey and providing them with information to enhance their experience. He prides himself on being an available and accessible asset to all our Sanford Sports Academy contacts. The more he gives, the more fulfilled he feels.
