Freddy Coleman

Sports Academy Manager – Basketball

Freddy Coleman joined the Sanford Sports Academy in Fargo in 2018 and became a manager in 2021, overseeing basketball operations in Fargo and Sioux Falls. He started his coaching career in 2012 at Concordia College. After two years there, he joined the North Dakota State University coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2013 and was a part of back-to-back NCAA Tournament teams from 2013-2015. Prior to his coaching career, he played college basketball at NDSU.

Coleman believes that basketball is a confidence-driven sport. He feels a responsibility to show his athletes he believes in them while holding them accountable – and having fun. He says that great things happen when athletes believe in themselves.

His favorite part of coaching is the impact he has on athletes’ lives. Many life lessons are taught along the way, like how to work hard, always give your best effort when others rely on you, communicate with teammates, and overcome adversity rather than just giving up. All this translates to every phase of the athletes’ future lives.
